Australian F1: Gourmet burgers

Dear Julia

Last year the Australian F1 was done by My eldest sister and her boyfriend.

It was very exciting actually, because they had just recently bought a house together, so it was one of the first events which they had catered at their beautiful new home.

As you may know, the Australian F1 is aired in the morning in South Africa, so what they decided to do was to have breakfast/brunch gourmet burgers.

The patties were made from scratch, using the ostrich and beef mixed mince which you can often buy at the shops here, but for the purpose of the day, we had fun pretending it was actually emu and kangaroo mince. :)

As it was not my F1 that I catered, so I cannot give you the exact recipe for the mince, BUT what I can do for you is be nice and tell you what most of the ingredients were that went into the mince, and approximates. :)

Therefore, your "plus/minus" recipe for the burger patties are as follows:

Ingredients:

+- 1 kg of beef and ostrich mince mix
+- 2 slices worth of bread crumbs
+- 1-2 eggs
+- 1 hand full of fresh parsley
a decent sprinkle of mixed herbs
about a table spoon of tomato paste
about 3 table spoons of worcestershire sauce (the most NB ingredient when making patties or meatballs in my opinion)
+- 2 teaspoons of crushed garlic
salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

Mix all the ingredients together to the consistency of play-dough.

Extra Notes:

Some of the yummy sides which we added to the serving table for people to create gourmet happiness included, beetroot, rocket, bacon, eggs, tomato, roasted red pepper and tomato pesto, onion marmalade, camembert cheese, mature cheddar cheese, guacamole, etc, etc, etc!

Mmmm... Look how yummy it looks!

Yours Truly
May Marjoram
